“Six Figure” PT Biz in 90 Days – a Simple Plan

Personal_Training_at_a_Gym_-_Pushups

Okay, so I have no idea what your exact income goals and requirements are.

But six figures of annual revenue is a common goal for fit pros.

And frankly, you SHOULD be doing at LEAST six figures in your fitness business, and you have the potential to make a LOT more if you want to!

But let’s start there.

###

So I have 90 days to be on track to making 100k per year. I just moved to a new city and I’m starting from scratch.

The business model I like is a mix of semi private training and boot camps.

I can leverage my time, and easily hit my income target in two or three hours per day of training time – leaving the rest of my available time to work ON the business, getting leads, selling, providing great service, etc.

So average price points are:

– 299/mo for semi private clients
– 199/mo for boot camp clients

11 semi private clients @ 299 per month will get me $3,289 in revenue … and 26 boot camp clients @ 199 per month will get me $5,174 in revenue … which will get me

$8,463 in monthly revenue total, or $101,556 per year.

That’s a total of 37 clients I’ll need to get in 90 days.

That breaks down to about 12-13 new clients per month.

And 3 per week.

VERY do-able … don’t you think?

Here’s my plan …

1 – I’m going to get a basic website up. It will get people to call me for a free trial, and have a place for people to leave their email address in return for my free report.

I am going to get a Yelp page up.

I am going to get my Google Places profile active.

And I’m going to get a presence going on Facebook and other social media.

These things combined are going to get me about 10 leads per month … which if we follow the steps in this report, should get me 3-4 new clients per month.

2 – I’m going to do a charity boot camp once a month on a Saturday. I’m going to use the email list I’m growing from my website and my Facebook page to get people to come.

I’ll also contact the charity and see if they will email out about it, post it to social media, etc.

I’m also going to see local businesses will let me put fliers about the event in their places (which they should be – it’s an easy sell, it’s for charity! 😉

I’ll see if they’ll tell their email list and social media followers about it as well.

My goal will be to get 10 people to come to these each – which should result in another 3-4 clients if I do everything right.

3 – I’m going to re-invest some of the $$ I’m making into door hangers.

Each month, I’m going to get 1000 of these printed, hire a couple of high school kids, and hit the pavement with them and hand them out in the neighborhood for half a day. This should get me at LEAST 10 more leads, and 3-4 more clients.

SO … each month, if I’m doing everything right, I’m getting about 30 leads per month, about 20 consults, and about 12 new clients … which will get me to my 36 clients!

BONUS!

To add a little “buffer” in, just in case I don’t quite hit that 36 client mark …

That’s where our value maximization strategies come in!

The first two months, I am going to just focus on lead gen and getting new people signed up.

On the third month, I should have 20-25 clients at that point – and I have a decent base of folks I can add some back end income streams to.

So, the last month, I’m going to:

– Get some T shirts designed and have a sale (50% of clients get one @ $25 ea = about $250)

– Launch a special add-on 8 week program to get ready for a local mud run – I’ll charge $149 for the full eight weeks, get 5 people to sign up, and will make $750

And there you have an extra $1000 in your pocket 🙂

###

There you have a simple plan to create a six figure PT biz in 90 days, from scratch.

I have no idea what your exact income goals and requirements are … but six figures of annual revenue is a common goal for fit pros … and this was just a fun plan for me to put together 🙂

So get to work on building that six – figure PT biz!

Easiest Way to Get More Personal Training Clients – Part 2

week of may 8 challenge workout

THANKS for all the great feedback on my last FVTBiz blog post, “The Easiest Way to Get More Personal Training Clients”!

Got a lot of questions on that one, but one of the most common was about the SPECIFIC sales process we use with potential new clients at FVT.

The tips in part one of this series were more geared towards optimizing the entire sales funnel … like calling people back faster, confirming appts 24 hours ahead of
time, having a script on the phone to pre-screen, etc … which are ALL critical …

But arguably, the MOST important part of the process is the actual sales appointment.

Here is the seven step process we take all prospective new clients through at FVT. This is proven, and it works. We’ve sold over one million dollars worth of personal training / boot camp services through this exact process over approx the last three years. Our closing percentage hovers around 85-90%.

Use it, practice it, hone it … and start getting more personal training clients ASAP!

FVT 7 Step Intro / Sales Session Process

1 – Build Rapport

Get to know prospect, build common ground, small talk.

2 – Have them fill out PAR-Q

Have them fill out medical history form. Also give them an overview of what you will be doing today.

3 – Go over their goals

Go over prospect’s goals. Really dig deep, and figure out what they are looking to do, so you can figure out how you can help.

4 – Take weight and body fat

Take prospect’s weight and body fat percentage.

Find out where they are now, and set a goal with them of where they want to get to.

5 – YOUR background, overview of program, and pricing breakdown

Here, tell them a little about YOUR story. Share your experience, credentials, etc.

Spell out your program and everything they get.

Show them your pricing and different program options.

Let them think about it while you do your workout.

6 – Assessment

Here, you do a short workout … it’s a sample for them, but your goal is to do a basic movement assessment … so you can see how they move, their fitness level, what program of yours they would best fit in, etc.

7 – Close the program

Sit back down with the prospect. Ask them – “based on everything we’ve gone over today, which program works best for you?”

Get payment info, get them set for their first session and off you go!
So, there you have an overview of the FVT “7 Step Intro / Sales Session Process”. I hope it helps YOU, help more people and change more lives. Because remember – you
have to SELL your clients into your program for them to start – and for them to get the fitness results they’ve always wanted!

Easiest Way to Get More Personal Training Clients

DSC00146

In conversations with many, many fit pros looking for help with their businesses in the last couple of years ….

In many cases, it turns out that the easiest way for them to get more personal training / boot camp clients is rather simple.

A lot of them THINK it’s because they aren’t getting enough new leads – that is, prospective clients interested in their business …

But that is often actually NOT the case.

The easiest way for them to get more personal training clients is to get better at converting LEADS – folks who have expressed an interest in your services – to PAYING CLIENTS.

Let’s say you get 20 leads per month.  And 5 of those – currently – end up as training clients.

What if you could streamline your process, and bump that up by just 20% – so now 9 of those end up as regular, paying clients?

That would amount to an extra four clients per month … an extra 48 clients a year – at $1000 ea, you just gave yourself a 48k per year raise … without going to any extra effort to bring even one single new client into your business!

Now streamlining your “sales funnel” is a process that has many moving parts … but here are five simple ways you can start on selling MORE of your prospects into your personal training / boot camp programs:

1 – Fix your website

The copy on your website needs to get target clients to take some kind of action – like getting people to pick up the phone and give you a call, or to give you their email address to get your free report, or to come in for a low-cost trial, etc.

If it’s not doing any of these things … you gotta fix it! 😉

2 – Shorten lead response time

In an ideal world, you want to respond to prospective clients inquires as FAST as possible … like within 60 minutes.

This is when people are in the mindframe to take action and sign up. They may find another solution in the meantime if you don’t get back with them.

3 – Follow up

Most fit pros make the mistake of calling someone back or emailing them once, and then if they never hear back, they never follow up.

You are losing out on BIG TIME revenues if you do this. Follow up with people at LEAST three times.

4 – Script your “phone interview” process

You want to have a specific, scripted process to get to the bottom of people’s problems, find out if you can help them, and find out if they can afford it, commit to the time needed, etc … BEFORE they come in to your facility.

5 – Confirm appts 24 hours ahead of time

Bump your show percentage 10-20% this way easily … and add thousands and thousands of annual revenue in the process.

In conclusion, the easiest way to get more personal training clients – contrary to what many people think – is simply to get better at CONVERTING … more of your leads, into paying clients.

The tips in this article are a great place to start.

How to Choose a Profitable Target Market for Fit Pros – 8 KEY Questions to Ask

fit pro kb swing

The place to START as a fitness professional … or to re-visit, if you’ve never really got this right in the first place … is to attack a profitable target market where you can establish yourself as the go-to fitness professional.

When I first started in the fitness business, I thought anyone and everyone could be my training client. Why not? I had a couple of years of experience in the NFL, was on my way to earning my Master’s Degree in exercise science, and was a newly certified personal trainer!

This worked okay at the beginning, but as I branched out on my own, away from a health club, and particularly when I opened my studio, this did not work.

A great example is this:

— High school kids training to get better at their sport

vs

— Middle-aged women who want to lose fat

vs

— Baby boomers who want to get stronger, more mobile and keep up with their grandkids

All have VERY different needs when it comes to their fitness program. The same messages are going to speak to them in a very different way. They use very different
language to describe their fitness goals. And they hang out in totally different places.

SO … if you pick your market wisely … you can FOCUS, and DOMINATE in your area.

Can you see how this just makes SO much sense?

Here are 8 KEY questions to ask yourself when trying to figure out what market you are going to specialize in:

###

Have you downloaded your FREE resources to build your fitness business empire yet? Get them now by entering your best email address at the upper right of the
page!

###

1 – Can you easily reach the people in the market?

Want to specialize in women’s fat loss? You can probably figure out where women who want to lose fat “hang out” in your area … which makes it relatively easy for
you to find them.

Want to focus on guys that are training for the NFL? It’s possible, but hard to build a biz around … these folks are a little harder to reach.

2 – Can you address their most compelling problems?

Do you KNOW your market in and out? You MUST if you want to effectively reach them and help them … what are their most compelling problems?

3 – Can the people in the market pay?

Great example – our training studio is near one of the nicest areas of our town. We focus on getting people in that area as our clients, because we know they can
afford it.

College students are a classic example of a BAD target market for personal training … of course there are exceptions to the rule, but generally, they don’t have the
money! 🙂

4 – WILL the people in the market pay?

Even if folks in your target market HAVE the money … is fitness / health / etc enough of a priority for them to PAY for it?

5 – Is the market the right size?

Niche is good. But you CAN go too small …

Look at the example above of athletes prepping to get into the NFL. VERY small market, couple of big name trainers / facilities already dominate that market, etc.

6 – Is the market saturated?

Maybe you live in Southern California and you want to train women who want to lose fat … but there are 10 other gyms within a mile of where you want to open up that
focus on the same thing.

Competition is good because that means people in your area are interested … but think it through.

7 – Can you set yourself apart and dominate?

You need to deliver outstanding service and set yourself apart and be able to DOMINATE your niche!

8 – Do you want to work with people in this market?

This is KEY … baby boomers are an AWESOME market to work with in fitness … but do you WANT to serve and help these people? REALLY think about this before you
decide where you’re going to focus!!

Alright, awesome stuff. To sum up, the place to START as a fitness professional … or to re-visit, if you’ve never really got this right in the first place … is to
attack a profitable target market where you can establish yourself as the go-to fitness professional.

Ask the 8 key questions covered in this article when deciding what market to enter … get these right, and you will be on the fast track to success!!

Personal Training BUSINESS or HOBBY? (10 second test)

fit pros in a circle

I am returning home from two days of masterminding with a GREAT group of business fitness business owners.

I also got some one-on-one coaching for my online info business, which was AWESOME as well.

HUGE take-aways, I know that investing in coaching is always SUCH a great decision for me … flying across the country, spending time away from my family, and investing a few thousand dollars isn’t easy or in my “comfort zone” … but I know the results I get from doing these types of things – as a business owner, and just as a person – are SO worth it, I make it the highest priority to make it happen several times each year …

Anyway, I wanted to share a common trend I saw, that I thought could help you in YOUR fitness business.

This seems to be the common progression:

— Folks are passionate about fitness, so they start their own personal training / boot camp business.
— They get things rolling, and make a little money –
— And then they get stuck. They are doing *okay*, but also working very hard, and are not making the money and living the lifestyle they really want to.

Reasons are a little different for everyone’s unique situation of course – but a common issue is not knowing your numbers.

To put it bluntly, people treat this like a hobby, and not a business.  Which is fine if you want to just do something fun and make a few bucks on the side.  But if you are reading this article, I think you might want more 🙂

Quick 10 second test, to see where you’re at – answer the following questions:

– How many new leads did you get last month?

– How many of those leads resulted in setting a success session / selling a front end offer of some kind / etc?

– What percentage of those success sessions / front end offers signed up for one of your on-going, regular programs?

– What is your average client lifetime value?

Can you answer those questions off the top of your head, or just by looking them up real quick?

If not – why?

If you want to make this into a real business and make real money, you gotta know.

And if you don’t, you gotta start tracking … and using that data to plan and correct course … and get you to where you want to be!

“Backwards Business Development” for Personal Trainers

IMG_4756

One thing I’ve noticed in recent discussions with personal trainers and boot camp instructors, is that folks have some specific income goals for their business … which is AWESOME … but they aren’t 100% clear on what it’s going to take to get there.

As an example, you want to make $100,000 per year as a trainer.  I don’t know what your exact goal is, but this seems to be a common target … it provides for a comfortable lifestyle in most areas of the world … and it is challenging, but do-able.

So having a specific goal is GREAT … but the next step is, we have to know exactly what to do to get there.  The best way to do this is to work backwards.

Like what you’re reading?  Enter your email in the box at the upper right of the page to go “VIP” and get first news when new posts are published on FVTBiz.com!

Check this out:

— $100,000 a year of total revenue / 12 = $8,333 per month

— If you break that down further, it’s a little over $2000 a week

— Working five days a week, you’ll need to make about $400 a day

— If you’re charging $60 a session, that comes out to somewhere around seven sessions a day, 35 sessions a week

— Each client trains on average twice a week

— Comes down to 17-18 clients.

VERY do-able when you look at it this way, right?

If you’re doing group training, you can do that even quicker and work even less hours.

And if your goal is to make more, you just have to tweak the numbers.

The bottom line : know what your ideal lifestyle looks like, and work backwards towards achieving it.

This might seem simple to you … it might be ground-breaking … but the point of the article is, DO it! 😉

Get out a pen and paper NOW, and figure out exactly what you need to do to get where you want to go.

You’ll be SHOCKED at the power of this approach … and you can start working your income goals with more direction today!

Thanks for reading, and talk soon –
